Phone Internet & Email

The telecommunication infrastructure has developed a lot in Cambodia over the past couple of the decades, making phone calls in Cambodia very easy nowadays. So when you come to Cambodia, you can bring your mobile phone along and can make a call to your family oversea through international roaming. Unluckily, 3G mobile phones would not be allowed to support video calling. Landline, mobile and international telephone services are available to all countries from Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and from other major provincial cities. It is affordable at most hotels, Internet shops, many of the guesthouses and at the main post offices, but the cost is a bit expensive ($3-5$ per minute). Fortunately, you can find an alternative. The easiest and cheap way for international call is purchasing a SIM card and a phone number at one of many phone shops scattered in towns or you can purchase it just outside the arrival terminal at the Phnom Penh International Airport and Siem Reap International Airport. A SIM card may cost as little as US$1.50. Make sure you take the brochure that comes with the card (or ask for it) you will need the exit code to call international. Your valid passport and visa are required for purchasing. For an oversea call via a SIM Card, it would cost between 3.5 cents – 4.5 cent per minute.

In most cities, restaurants and hotels offer WiFi connections for guests, and there are numerous places where internet access is available for public use, such as coffee shops, bars, restaurants and petrol stations. Recent advances in mobile phone connectivity have expanded internet access to about one-third of Cambodians.

The international country calling code for Cambodia is 855. Cambodian telephone numbers are usually listed beginning with a '0' (e.g. 023-123456.) The following is the outgoing code for international calling with phone operators.

Outgoing Gateway
 Telecom  001
 CellCard (Mobitel)  177
 Smart  +
 QBMore  153
 SeaTel  175
 CooTel  158

If you would like to make a phone call within Cambodia, you usually dial the entire number with a “0”at the beginning of the number e.g. 012 111-222, 078 111-222

To make an international phone call, you first dial the outgoing gateway code + your country code + area code + local number (eg. from Cambodia to Canada 177 1-709-1111222).
