Taphrom Monastery (Tom Riader)

Preah Khan Temple

Floating Village

Day1: Angkor Wat/ Angkor Thom/Circus

Morning, at 08h30am, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to explore Angkor Wat that is the most impressive Hindu temple complex and the largest religious monument in the world. Breaking from the Shaivism tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation – first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.

Proceed to the Ancient Capital of Khmer Empire, Angkor Thom, and tour the famous Bayon temple. The Bayon was a first Buddhist temple with many face towers, built in the heart of Angkor Thom Capital by King Jayavarman VII during 1181-1218 AD. The Gigantic faces on its towers look to the four cardinal directions, protecting the Kingdom and its people.

In the evening (19h00), you will be picked up from your hotel to enjoy a performance of ‘Phare, the Cambodian Circus’. Starting at 20h00pm, professional artists of Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS) will perform an inspiring show suitable for people of all ages. Set up in Battambang in 1994 by young returnee Cambodians from the refugee camps who learned about using art as a means of coping with trauma, PPS has played an influential role in promoting and developing Khmer culture over the years after the Khmer Rouge genocide. The hour long show mixes traditional and modern theater, music, dance, acrobatics, juggling and contortion performed in a story about Cambodian lives and society.

Transfer back to your hotel and tour ends.

Day2: Taprohm/Tanei/Preah Khan/Floating Village

Then you will visit Ta Prom monastery, the most beautiful overgrown temple, where a well-known Tom Raider movie was made. This temple was built in 1186 in honor of the king’s mother of Jayavaraman VII and was the center of the health care for the entire country.

Come back to hotel for relaxation.

Then you will see Tanei, a small hidden temple located deep in the jungle, about 200m from East Baray. This temple was built by King Jayavarman VII in the 12th century to dedicate to Buddhism. Because of abandonment and nature, tree roots spilt open the temple stone, and jungle flora sprawls out across the temple grounds, making it become a truly “ruined” ruin.

Walk about 15-20 minutes in a relaxing manner through the jungle to visit Preah Khan monastery built late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII in honor to his father. Preah Khan, meaning, sacred sword, is a huge, highly explore-able monastic complex, full of carvings, passages and photo opportunities. It originally served as Buddhist monastery and school, engaging over 1000 monks.

Late afternoon (15h30), you will be taken to visit one of Siem Reap floating villages (Chong Kneas, Kompong Pluk or Mechrey, depending on water level). This floating village is located in the Tonle Sap Lake (Great Lake) that could swell up to seven times of its original size during the monsoon season. Its ecosystem is one of the richest and most diverse in the region. This boat trip will explore the floating fishing villages that live at the edges of the lake, passing submerged forests and fishing farms. This visit gives an insight into another world and way of life. The flooded forest around the village is fascinating, submerged for half the year, the trees have learned to adapt and are an invaluable part of the extraordinary ecosystem.

Return to town and stroll through local markets for shopping, sigh seeing or whatever you like.

Come back to your hotel for relaxation and tour ends.
